“The Tomorrow War” is an excellent action-packed science fiction movie that tells the story of a world where humans were never allowed to be born. It’s a world where the human race has evolved and, in a way, become extinct. However, the humans that live there have become so dependent on technology that they don’t care about the world around them.

In The Tomorrow War , Chris Pratt plays a Marine Biologist working to save a colony of ants from the horrors of a futuristic war between the human race and a robotic species called the Ohm. (If this sounds like an allegory for World War 2, you’re right; it’s about humans fighting robots in an alternate timeline where WW2 never happened.) The plot of this low budget sci-fi action romp is a bit basic, but it’s held together with solid acting, a great score, and a few cool set pieces. It’s a bit silly and uneven, but it looks like a fun, if low-stakes time-sink.

The Tomorrow War is a 2014 science fiction action film distributed by Universal Pictures, written and directed by Timur Bekmambetov, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. The film stars Chris Pratt, Abigail Spencer, and Michael Peña. The film’s story takes place in a future where the United States waged war on the nation of Mexico, known as The Tomorrow War, using tactics similar to the ones used in Iraq and Afghanistan. The film follows a group of soldiers on a mission to rescue a U.S. Congressman who was kidnapped during the war.

A swarm of troops arrives from 2051 to disturb the present and declare that mankind is going to lose a battle against aliens in this sci-fi thriller, The Tomorrow War, which was published this month on Amazon Prime Video. It’s hardly revolutionary, but it’s entertaining.

Soldiers from another world

Dan (Chris Pratt), a former military guy who now works as a science teacher, has just lost out on a fantastic job opportunity. However, he is soon confronted with a new problem: warriors from the future arrive to warn the Earth that mankind is going to perish in a battle with aliens. Military and civilian people are dispatched 30 years into the future to attempt to reverse the trend. If they survive, they are transported to the front lines for seven days and then returned to the present. Given the demonic fury with which these half-Alien, half-zerg monsters rip people apart, this is no simple job. This is what Pratt will find out when it’s his time. And, like he promised his daughter before he departed, he would attempt to rescue the planet with the aid of a scientist.

Tomorrow is a long time away.

The Tomorrow War, directed by Chris McKay (Lego Batman: The Movie), is a fast-paced and competent science fiction action picture, though not very unique. When confronted with this well-oiled extraterrestrial invasion that doubles the traditional scenarios, it’s hard not to think of Independence Day, Starship Trooper, or War of the Worlds. A lack of risk-taking that serves as a reminder that this feature picture was once a Paramount blockbuster that Amazon Prime Video purchased for $200 million.

Warm but pleasurable

We can’t deny ourselves the pleasure even if the outcome is a little lukewarm. First and foremost, because everyone in the cast is in their rightful place: Chris Pratt, who is always ready to play the hero with conviction, Yvonne Strahovski, JK Simmons, who is perfect as a muscular grandfather, and Sam Richardson (Veep), who brings a welcome touch of humour and lightness in the midst of this carnage. The action scenes are also excellent, due in large part to the excellent monster design. Despite the aforementioned déjà vu, the script manages to hold its own and deliver its surprises with humility.

We are left wanting in terms of the cinematic offer. No shot will be enshrined in the genre’s pantheon. The message of the film will not keep us up at night. Nobody is going to launch a petition demanding a sequel or a director’s cut. The Tomorrow War is unmistakably a family-friendly sci-fi blockbuster, a pure work of entertainment that doesn’t try to be anything else and succeeds admirably in achieving its objective.

The film stars Chris Pratt as a dorky, but brave astronaut who ends up on a mission to save the world. But, the film’s real gem is its cast – featuring Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Karen Gillan (Doctor Who)..
