Turnip Boy is a game developed by The Nitty Gritty, which conjures up a hilarious adventure story about a kidnapped toddler, a fake-looking producer, and a retired judge. Filled with hilarious dialog and a darkly comedic plot, this game is sure to keep you entertained.
It’s tax time! Okay, maybe not, but it could very well be as the first quarter holidays approach, when you need to make sure your taxes are ready. What better way to celebrate such an important time of year than with a charming video game about tax evasion. Turnip Boy commits tax evasion is a hilarious joke that comments on taxes, governments and the modern workplace. Along the way, you’ll meet other fruits and vegetables who have different professions, from hairdresser to sandwich maker to video game streamer. Everyone gets in your way because the little Turnip didn’t pay his taxes. Yeah, someone made a game out of that kind of premise.
When you hear a disembodied voice telling you to pick up the sword, you know you have to. At first glance, it’s hard to know what you’re getting into with Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. Some may not understand it right away, but I certainly didn’t understand that it was essentially a clone of The Legend of Zelda. He even has his own joke when you put your sword together. To serve the community, Mayor The Onion gives you a series of mandatory tasks, each of which consists of going to a certain place, exploring it a bit, and then visiting a nearby dungeon. Repeat until the game is complete.
As you’d expect, each section is filled with enemies, presented as vegetarian animals (for once, the other side of the discussion is the butt of a joke!) or spoiled food. As you’d expect from a counterpart to Zelda, the dungeons are filled with enemies, simple puzzles, items to collect, and of course it all ends with a final boss fight, after which you get an extra health tank. It’s a good old game circle that never seemed to be broken, so it doesn’t need fixing.
I pay my dues, leave me alone! I’m worth more than that too! Solving the puzzles in Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion isn’t particularly difficult, which is actually misleading: Sometimes this can cause you to think too much about the solution. Sometimes you can be your own worst enemy. Nothing in the game, from exploration to combat, is complicated. This game is mostly inspired by the original Zelda, so it’s not difficult at all. Usually you’ll encounter a puzzle at the entrance to a dungeon that seems unsolvable, but usually all you have to do is go to the next room, grab a brand new item, and come back to the entrance to solve the dumbest, most obvious problem.
It’s either the pig or me, and it won’t be me. The graphical style of Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is quite simple, but overall nice. The entire game has a bright and striking color palette, with the exception of the areas with sugary or spoiled foods, which are darker and more sinister. The sound design is also very good. The music suits each area well: bright and cheerful music if you’re visiting the capital, slow but inviting tunes if you’re exploring the forest, or dark and edgy if you’re near the rocks.
New Smash character announced. Despite an utterly absurd premise, Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected. Of course, the game isn’t very long, lasting about two to three hours, but you can easily extend your play by talking to NPCs and solving their little side missions. The rewards aren’t really exciting, they usually come in the form of hats and other cosmetics, but it’s an incentive nonetheless. Overall, this is a fun activity that allows you to pay off debt and beat the vegetarians at the same time.
|All the beautiful fruits and vegetables are well represented in their portraits. The world corresponds to the atmosphere that is created.||Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is like an incredibly simple version of the original The Legend of Zelda game. There’s nothing wrong with that, especially if the game runs smoothly.|
|The music harmonizes incredibly well with the atmosphere created. There aren’t many songs I would listen to outside of the game, but in this context they fit perfectly.||In a nutshell. Turnip Boy doesn’t try to stretch your playing time with boring mandatory tasks that you don’t have to do. There are a few more optional side missions that, while not exciting, will make you want to play longer.|
|Final decision: 7.5|

Since the birth of the internet, there have been at least a dozen websites devoted to review games, but it took only until a few years ago that plenty of sites started popping up that reviewed games from a comedic standpoint. If you’ve ever played a turn-based game, you know that you can’t just suddenly go into the next turn. Instead, you have to manage your character’s stats, especially the health points, mana points, and energy points.
