Windows 10 relies on Windows 8’s Windows User Experience Interfaces (or UIs) to provide information to users about available hardware, but that’s changing with the upcoming Windows 11. The new interface is designed to be a more streamlined, modern experience, but also to be more faithful to the underlying operating systems. This is a controversial topic, though, since many users have come to rely on some of the legacy applications from the past.
Microsoft has updated its Windows 10 Home and Pro editions with a new driver for Intel and AMD processors, and it’s gotten lots of attention due to the new features and strict CPU requirements that come with Windows 11. As we already know, the new operating system will launch on 29 July 2017, and will require a lot more power than Windows 10.
Microsoft has published a new blog post to explain enthusiasts’ concerns about the minimum system requirements for its upcoming and increasingly controversial Windows 11 operating system. In a blog post, Microsoft explains that the reason for Windows 11’s strict CPU requirements is to support several new security features that require chips with built-in TPM and Secure Boot, VBS, and special VBS features. However, Microsoft is testing devices with 7th generation Intel Core processors.
Generation and first generation AMD Ryzen processors to see if they can take advantage of Windows 11 support. Microsoft has also redesigned its PC Health Check application to make it more detailed and accurate.
- Security. Windows 11 raises the bar on security by requiring hardware with protections such as Windows Hello, device encryption, virtualization-based security (VBS), hypervisor protected code integrity (HVCI), and secure boot. The combination of these features reduced malware by 60% on the devices tested. To achieve this, all processors supporting Windows 11 include a TPM, support Secure Boot, and support VBS and special VBS features.
- Reliability. Devices upgraded to Windows 11 are in a supported and reliable state. By selecting processors that have adopted the new Windows driver model and are supported by our OEM partners and silicon manufacturers, we achieve 99.8% failure-free performance.
- Compatibility. Windows 11 is designed to be compatible with the applications you use. It has basic specs: a 1 GHz+ 2-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, which are our minimum requirements for Office and Microsoft Teams.
Based on the principles described above, we are confident that devices with 8th generation Intel and AMD Zen 2 processors will be able to run at high speeds. Some of the new features will require an Intel or AMD processor that is socket compatible with an 8th gen architecture. That means an Intel Core i7-8700K, Core i9-9900K, or Ryzen 7 2700X.
