Low Frame Rate on Warframe Steam Edition: Fix it Now!
This is a follow-up to A Low Frame Rate on Warframe Steam Edition: Fix it Now! Hopefully, this will be the last of this topic. But until then, a number of folks have reported that they’re having problems with limited frame rates on the Warframe Steam Edition. In my case, my frame rates drop to as low as 10 FPS for some missions and as low as 2 FPS for others, even when the graphics settings are set to ultra.
It seems like there’s a new bug going around in Warframe: low frame rate. This happens on a lot of people’s machines, and while the problem has been fixed in both the PC and console versions of the game, some players still have the issue.
Warframe is a free to play action-adventure game that blends elements of FPS, RTS, MMORPG, and hack ‘n slash. As you play, you’ll build a character, choose a warframe, obtain weapons and gear, fight enemies, complete quests, and discover warframe lore. The game’s team has been releasing new content almost every week and today, there’s a new update for the game.
Understanding the Basics of Warframe’s Low Frame Rate
Understand why you’re experiencing low frame rates in Warframe and follow the steps in this tutorial to bring them back to normal (for your system’s specs).
If your computer fulfills the minimum requirements for Warframe yet the game still stutters sometimes during online multiplayer battles, it may be a problem with your internet connection. Frame skipping and stuttering will occur in Warframe multiplayer if there is a packet loss of more than 5%. The stuttering caused by packet loss may be experienced in any multiplayer game. Users have reported that Call of Duty Warzone stutters on their system despite having an RTX 3070 installed, and this has nothing to do with resource use. This stuttering problem is caused by a network stability issue.

Now that you know how online multiplayer games may lag and stutter even if your machine fulfills the minimum requirements, here are a few ways to avoid frame drops caused by a shaky internet connection.
Warframe’s Low Frame Rate Issue has been resolved.
Step 1: Determine whether or not the Internet is stable enough for online multiplayer gaming.
This is a good rule of thumb to keep in mind.
To the game server, 3 down, 1 up in less than 160ms (with less than 2% packet loss).
Before continuing, you must first determine the nearest city to your actual location where Warframe’s server is situated. In my instance, the Warframe server is in Singapore, and I’m testing on one of the servers (operated by Singtel). You can see in the image that my latency is 82ms, which is very similar to what I receive in Warframe. My download and upload speeds are sufficient for a pleasant multiplayer experience.
So, how do you check for packet loss? Simply enable the network statics you wish to view from the in-game menu, and you’re ready to go! Check for a rise in packet loss whenever the game stutters. If you’re certain that packet loss is causing your Warframe frame rate to drop, try the following fixes:
- Try switching to the 5GHz frequency band instead of 2.4GHz WiFi to see if the packet loss problem continues. You may need to contact your ISP to get your router upgraded to accommodate the 5GHz frequency.
- You can’t seem to get your life back to normal with 5GHz? Directly connecting your PC to the router with a CAT6 LAN cable will completely eliminate the interference issue.
Step 2: Restart your computer and double-check that it’s the only one connected to the router.
When a lot of devices are connected to your network and they’re all fetching data, and your gaming machine is having a hard time claiming and optimizing its bandwidth from the already strained connection, packet loss occurs. Do you want to know whether your network has been overwhelmed by devices and if this is what’s causing the packet loss? Change the password on your router to ensure that no previously connected wireless devices are accessing your home network. Except for the one that connects to your computer, unplug all of the LAN wires from the rear of your router.

Start Warframe and check whether the low frame rate problem has chosen to stick around for a little longer.
Step 3: Is there a problem with the Warframe servers?
Warframe servers are planned for maintenance every 2 months or so, and the developers will notify you in advance if there will be an outage. However, random server outages are also frequent, and the best method to find out if there is an outage is to go to DownDetector.
Press ‘Enter’ after clicking the ‘Magnifying Glass’ icon and typing in “Warframe.” If the graph has increased significantly in the past two hours, it most likely indicates there’s a server problem, and you’ll have to wait for the engineers to repair it before you can play Warframe.
Make changes to the graphics settings (VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION INSIDE)
Yes, I am aware! You didn’t buy the RTX 3070 for the sole purpose of playing Warframe on medium settings. This is only a practice run. If your PC components (particularly the GPU and CPU) are overheating, you may experience throttling, which causes abrupt delays and stutters that last a few seconds before returning to normal. When the system is throttling, FPS, CPU frequency, packet loss, and other indicators become red, and the game stops responding until the system cools down.
Run your game on medium (or even low) settings to avoid stressing your CPU and GPU, as well as the risk of overheating.
After implementing all of the patches listed above, the low frame rate problem in Warframe will be resolved.
Out of 10 hours of game play, Warframe has had at least 2 hours of frame rate issues..
