Hands-on Preview – The Forgotten City

The Forgotten City

It’s a game in which you have to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, with the goal to find the Old City and rebuild civilization anew. It’s a technically challenging game.

The Forgotten City is the first expansion to the award-winning game, The City of Kings. You will return to the story, following more protagonists, each with their own story to tell. They will join you in a mission to find the lost city of the gods. The game sets you in the world of the legendary pharaohs, where you will find magic, mystery, combat and exploration. The expansion includes new items, skills, characters, enemies, a new civilization, new tilesets, new story scenes, new environments and much more.

As soon as I saw the trailer for Modern Storyteller’s Forgotten City, I was enthralled. A Skyrim-like game, a curious puzzle to solve and an original time travel mechanism? Sign me up. Fortunately, I was able to get early access to this game and experience it for myself. the concept of Forgotten City is so creative and unique that I couldn’t help but fall in love. You play as the main character who is rescued by an unknown woman who finds you floating on the river and takes you to safety. She asks you to help her find her colleague who disappeared after exploring ancient ruins. As you follow in his footsteps, you stumble upon the ruins yourself and end up in a strange portal.

This is definitely something I need to be a part of. This portal takes you to a mysterious city with Roman and (to a lesser extent) Greek influences, some two thousand years in the past. What’s even stranger is that everywhere there are golden statues of people looking on in horror or begging for their lives. That’s when you learn the golden rule: The sins of one fall on all. If you try to understand where you are or what is going on, you will immediately notice two facts. The first is that there is no way out in the Forgotten City. The second is that if one person violates the golden rule (don’t kill, don’t steal, don’t attack, etc.), he will pay for it by being turned into a golden statue forever. Think of it as a combination of the curse of Medusa and King Midas.

The golden rule is a terrible burden on everyone. It’s up to you to find out what’s causing this curse and how to get rid of it. The Forgotten City requires a lot of research and sleuthing to get to the bottom of it. Another interesting aspect is that the battles are, for the most part, optional. The Forgotten City encourages you to talk to everyone, study all available sites carefully and think before you act. If the golden rule is not followed, everyone will be turned into a golden statue. At this point, you must again pass through a strange portal that will take you back to the beginning of your journey. It reminds me a lot of The Legend of Zelda in that regard: Majora’s Mask. Especially since some story related items are still in your inventory when you restart the cycle.

These images may be beautiful, but they are a stark reminder of what can happen to anyone if just one offense is committed. Visually, The Forgotten City resembles Skyrim, but with much better facial animations. I’m really shocked that this game was developed by only three people! The concept, smooth controls, wonderful time trial mechanics and stunning visuals can rival the quality of work from some major studios. There are also four different endings in this game, so there is a lot of replayability. But don’t take my word for it, go and see for yourself. It’s a game that’s impossible to forget. The Forgotten City will release in July 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X, with a Switch version to follow later in the year.

This weekend I’m going to be playing the excellent city-builder The Forgotten City. A while back I was looking at Steam when I noticed an interesting game called Shenzhen. A city-building game set in the 1980s, Shenzhen offers a unique take on the genre by letting you play as a Chinese girl. While I’ve never played Shenzhen, I’m very glad it exists because it gives players an interesting perspective on the city in which they are playing. Can you save the forgotten city Skyrim?

There’s a saying that you can always tell the real Skyrim fans by their lack of a Game Review section on any site. And after I finished playing ‘Skyrim’, I can definitely say that’s true. I did not expect to play a ‘Skyrim’ game, and then find out that the game is a sequel, and then find out that the game is a much bigger and more expansive than I had ever imagined. This much is true: ‘Skyrim’ is a gorgeous game. During my time with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition , I was instantly struck by the feeling of loneliness permeating the ancient city of Whiterun. Many of the townsfolk I spoke with had no idea of the world outside of their tiny hamlets, which seemed to make me no better off than them. The only way to break out of the cycle of isolation is to discover what lies beyond the city walls.

What is the forgotten city Skyrim?

In a far-flung part of Tamriel, in the midst of a vast, frozen wasteland, there lays a city. It is home to a few hundred souls, and is the only known settlement in the area.
