If you’re a fan of Call of Duty and if you’re also a fan of remasters, then you likely heard that the new Call of Duty is one of the games that will be remastered and will be released on the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC. However, if you go to the official Call of Duty website they have a section called “Call Of Duty Remastered” that is clearly indicating that the game is only for Xbox One and Playstation 4 and that it doesn’t exist on the PC.
Veteran game developer and publisher Activision says a remaster of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 does not exist, despite many hints to the contrary. Instead, the company has confirmed a new, remastered version of the game will launch on the PC and Xbox One on November 4th. The new release follows the recent reveal of Call of Duty: WWII, which will be released on November 3rd.

In an interview with Kotaku yesterday, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed that the remaster of the critically-acclaimed (and award-winning) Modern Warfare 3 was not a reality. In a much-viewed YouTube video, Kotick stated: “We don’t have Modern Warfare 3 Remastered . It was there, but it was an idea that was around for a little while. There’s nothing to it. In 2017 and 2020, Activision restored Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, two of the company’s most popular and highly praised Call of Duty games.
These remastered versions indicated that Activision was almost definitely working on a new version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the third chapter in the Modern Warfare series, but the publisher has since confirmed that no such update is in the works.
Activision said in a statement to Charlie Intel that “a remaster of Modern Warfare 3, narrative or multiplayer, does not exist,” and that “any claims otherwise are incorrect.”
Activision is likely alluding to the many claims that were circulated by Call of Duty leakers on YouTube and other social media platforms, claiming that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Remastered was not only in production, but would also be exclusive to PlayStation systems for a month.
Despite Activision’s assertions that a remastered edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 isn’t in the works, Call of Duty players should be hopeful that it will be released eventually. That’s because, despite being a PlayStation 4 exclusive, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered sold over 3.4 million copies in its first month.
Activision has only remastered two Call of Duty games since the franchise started. The first was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which got remastered and bundled into Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2016. That remaster featured both the campaign & all of multiplayer as part of the package.
The second remaster was […] Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. The remaster was only the campaign mode, and did not include the MP mode. It was rumored since 2018, but only released in 2020 with a bundle for use in Call of Duty: Warzone & Modern Warfare.
On Friday, Activision sent out an email to Call of Duty fans claiming that Modern Warfare 3 Remastered is not real. They offered no other information, other than an email address for anyone who is interested in the “mysterious” sequel to the World War 2 shooter. However, it appears that this “leak” is something Activision is staging to create interest for the game, since the game is not even in production.
